BMP388 - Precision Barometric Pressure and Altimeter
Bosch is the leader in barometric pressure sensors since the BMP085. BMP180 and BMP280... and now the next generation with the BMP388 Precision Barometric Pressure sensor. This sensor is similar to its earlier versions but even better with this new generation. The BMP388 offer the better precision ever seen on a BMP series, it is an excellent component for environmental sensing. It can also be used as a precision altimeter.
This new BMP3xx offer a low altitude noise (~ 0.1m) and is still fast conversion time. The BMP3xx is the next-generation from Bosch and can be used either I2C and SPI configurations. For easy wiring, go with I2C. If you want to connect a bunch of sensors go with SPI to avoids address collision.
The relative accuracy is of 8 Pascals (+/- 0.5 meter of altitude) offering a better precision than BMP280 (12 Pascal so +/- 1 meter). This sensor can be used for drones to keep altitude stable, for wearables or any project that wants to track altitude. Note that for absolute height (height above the sea level) it will be necessary to enter the barometric pressure at the sea level. This is true of every altimeter sensor using barometric pressure to evaluate altitude as the weather changes modifies barometric pressure in a global way (at your location and sea location).
The BMP3xx also measure the temperature with an accuracy of +/- 0.5 °C.
It is a great SMD sensor and thank to Adafruit Industries, it is mounted onto a breakout board with all the needed components. So, the BMP3xxx is ready to use for your next project. The breakout board comes with a 3.3V regulator and level shifting so you can use it with a 3V or 5V logic microcontrollers.
Adafruit Industries also provides the Arduino Library for BMP388.
