40V 10A Power Mosfet switch controled over I2C

The buffy TPN2R304PL mosfet and HT0740 mosfet driver can switch a DC load of 10A @ 40V and can be driven over an I2C bus thank to the TCA9554A I2C expander. Thank to the 2 addressing bits of TCA9554A, you can control up to 4 Mosfet on a single I2C bus. The address can be configured with the cuttables traces on the back of the board.

This breakout is fully-isolated and I2C-controllable to control the Power MOSFET. The terminals are really handy to screw the load on the breakout. A status LED (white) is used as visual user feedback.

The HT0740 breakout is 3.3V or 5V compatible (as well as I2C interface). The breakout is designed to be used with straight or right angle pins.
As designed, the breakout can be plugged directly on the Raspberry Pi's GPIO (pins 1, 3, 5, 6, 9).

This breakout is also compatible with the Breakout Garden of Pimoroni where using breakouts is as easy as just popping it into one of the six slots connector.

Technical details

  • HT0740 MOSFET driver chip (datasheet)
  • TCA9554A I2C expander chip (datasheet)
    I2C interface (four addresses: 0x38-0x3B)
  • TPN2R304PL MOSFET (datasheet)
  • Not PWM-able
  • DC voltage only
  • Bright white status LED
  • Can switch up to 40V / 10A (DC only)
  • Fully-isolated
  • Screw terminals
  • 3.3V or 5V compatible
  • Raspberry Pi-compatible pinout (pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9)
  • Compatible with Arduino (just search for the TCA9554A driver)
  • Python library available
  • Dimensions: 23x21x12mm

Do not use to switch loads higher than 40V / 10A.
Despite the MOSFET part being rated for higher currents, the screw terminals are not suitable for this.
