Raspberry-Pi 500+ : a monster of ppower

The Raspberry Pi 500+ is the most powerful Raspberry Pi computer to date. No application is too much for it thanks to its 16GB of DDR4 RAM. The 256GB NVMe hard-drive connected to the PCI bus allows this computer to boot in seconds (literally). A 256GB drive is very comfortable for a Linux computer; it will provide enough storage for several years (commercial operating systems are so much more demanding!). It's even possible to replace the SSD if you wish.

The 4 cores of the 64-bit (Cortex A76) have already proven themselves for a long time with the Raspberry Pi 5 and even if some low-priced x86 computers seem interesting, a Pi 500 Plus will automatically be less limited (lighter OS, well-optimized hardware, GPU used to the maximum).

The other major new feature of the Pi500+ is its incredibly comfortable 85-key mechanical keyboard with individual RGB backlighting for each key! This keyboard can be used in its default configuration or customized with Python commands and scripts (this article from Framboise 314 does elaborate it) and shell commands. The kit also includes a keycap puller for replacing/swapping the keys on the keyboard.

In terms of connectivity, the Pi 500+ still features 802.11b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and Gigabit Ethernet with a transfer rate of up to 900 Mbps. The microSD card slot can be used to read media (though not to boot an operating system).

The video output consists of two micro-HDMI connectors (with micro-HDMI to HDMI cable included) offering 4Kp60 support.

Finally, the back of the Pi500+ exposes 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 as well as the 40-pin GPIO port.
