Add a M.2 / NVME disk or PCIe board for Raspberry-Pi 5
We've been waiting for the release of this official M2 HAT from the Raspberry-Pi Foundation for a while.
Of course, there are other M2 HATs but this is really the one we wanted to distribute.
This hat is special because the M.2 + M key format do ship PCIe lines up to the M2 device.
The first application of the Raspberry-Pi 5 PCIe bus is, of course, the addition of an SSD drive on PCI express.
The HAT allows you to add an M.2 PCIe SSD drive (size 2330 and 2242) or an NVME drive to your Raspberry-Pi 5.
Notice that we also have large capacity M.2 SSD drives with Raspberry-Pi OS pre-installed on the shop.
The Hat M2 can --of course-- receive other M.2 extensions such as an A.I. accelerator, Multi-Gigabyte network interface.
But it is especially with M.2 PCIe SSDs that this hat will be the most useful.
The M.2 HAT is designed to maintain a low profile for the Raspberry-Pi + SSD drive assembly.
Thanks to the 16mm spacing included, allow to mount the hat just over the official heat sink.
Thanks to this M.2 HAT, starting the Raspberry-Pi OS is almost instantaneous.
Note:
- the HAT is automatically detected by the latest firmware revision et allow automatic boot from the PCIe peripherals.
- The Pi 5 + M2 Hat + Cooler (so with 16mm spacer) doesn't fit in the official case.
Technical details
- M.2 + M.Key connector (so with PCIe)
