Easily create a powerful NAS server with the HC1
ODROID-HC1 (named "Home Cloud One") is a mini computer that offers an affordable solution as network attached storage (NAS) server. The home cloud-server can centralizes your data and provides file sharing and multimedia streaming to phones, tablets, computer and other networked devices. Ideal for a single user storage (many client devices), family members file sharing, developers, etc.
The HC1 is based on the very powerful ODROID-XU4 platform. The board own the Sata connector + USB-to-SATA bridge controler avoiding issue with bad or faulty USB cables. The HC1 can run Samba, FTP, NFS, SSH, NGINX, Apache, SQL, Docker, WordPress and many other server software with a full Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, Arch and OMV.
The ODroid Wiki contains ready-to-go OS distributions. Any XU4's OS is fully compatible with the HC1. Please see this list on the Odroid wiki.
Configure the ODROID-HC1 to your specific needs. Plenty of open-source software are available. The HC1 does not include storage yet, so you can choose the suited the storage capacity by adding your own HDD/SSD.
The frame is made to be stackable. It is possible to create stack of HC1 to duplicate storage possibilities.
Installed with a high performance SATA port and a Gigabit Ethernet port, to build a faster network storage device. Engineered metal frame body is designed to store a 2.5 inch HDD/SSD with great heat dissipation.

To spare space compared to XU4, the HC1 does not hold:
- removal of HDMI output
- removal of eMMC connector
- removal of USB 3.0 hub
Which hard-drive type can it be used with the HC1 ?
Any type of 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD storage may be installed. Accordingly to HardKernel info, the following unit thickness should work with HC1: 7mm, 9.5mm, 12mm and 15mm.
The Seagate Barracuda 2TB/5TB HDDs, Samsung 500GB HDD and 256GB SSD, Western Digital 500GB and 1TB HDD, HGST 1TB HDD and other storages were fully tested with UAS and S.M.A.R.T. functions.
