Description

A retro-gaming interface HAT for your Raspberry-Pi 4 (USB-C)

Want to transform your Raspberry Pi into neat retro-gaming console? The Picade X HAT from Pimoroni includes all the needed component to add a joystick and button inputs and also embeed  3W I2S DAC/amplifier and soft power switch. Nice!

Picade X HAT is now Raspberry Pi 4 compatible with and USB-C power!

This HAT offers the same features of the Picade HAT but now has female Dupont connectors to ease the hook up of the joystick and buttons.

Simply plug Picade X HAT onto your Pi GPIO, plug a USB-C power supply into HAT's USB-C connector (it back-powers your Pi through the GPIO), wire up your joystick and buttons and install the Pimoroni driver! It's ideal for your own DIY arcade cabinet builds, or for interfaces that need big, colourful buttons and sound.

Technical details

  • I2S audio DAC with 3W amplifier (mono) and push-fit terminals
  • Safe power on/off system with tactile power button and LED
  • USB-C connector for power (back-powers your Pi)
  • 4-way digital joystick inputs
  • 6x player button inputs
  • 4x utility button inputs
  • 1x soft power switch input
  • 1x power LED output
  • Plasma button connector
  • Breakout pins for power, I2C, and 2 additional buttons
  • Picade X HAT pinout
  • Compatible with all 40-pin Raspberry Pi models

The I2S DAC mix the both audio channels (coming from I2S digital audio) into a single mono output. The mixed output is used to feed the 3W amplifier to give some punch to the audio on the speaker.

The board features a soft-power-switch to turn on/off your Pi safely and avoids the SD to get corrupted. Tap the connected button to start up. Press it and hold it for 3 seconds to start the shutdown process and disconnect the Power.
